Fargo meets The Music Man, without the blood or the trombones, when performers dish out Minnesota humor in “Don’t Hug Me” at the Dorf Haus Dinner Theater, Roxbury, starting Nov.20
It's the coldest day of the year in Bunyan Bay when a slick karaoke salesman arrives at the bar and turns the locals' lives upside down. With songs such as “I’m a Walleye Woman in a Crappie Town” and “I Want to Go to the Mall of America”, the play tells how Gunner Johnson wants to sell his bar and move to Florida. Clara, his wife and former Winter Carnival Bunyan Queen, wants to stay. The popular waitress wants to pursue a singing career but her fiancé wants her to stay home. A fast-talking salesman arrives on the scene and promises to bring romance into their lives through karaoke.
Driftless Area Repertory Theater, Baraboo, is producing the play under the direction of Mikki Maddox.
The performances are Fridays through Sundays, Nov. 20-22 and Nov. 27-29. Cost for dinner and the play, including gratuity, is $40. For times, dinner choices and reservations, go to www.foodspot.com,/dorfhaus and click on dinner theater or (608) 643-3980.
