In 2015, a small and informally organized group of local folks came together to conduct fundraising for Badger Honor Flight. A campaign began in December of that year that eventually raised over $200,000 and provided the means to fully cover expenses for 2 entire Flights. That campaign reached out to local businesses through the Chamber of Commerce and prompted tremendous generosity from over 150 businesses and 450 individuals.
In subsequent years, smaller, but very popular events were held in the summer, including an antique tractor/poker run, the fields of sunflowers, the very beautiful American flag planted with thousands of red, white and blue petunias and more.
In 2019, reviewing the Badger Honor Flight waiting list, the group recognized almost 100 local Veterans awaiting a Flight. To ensure that their names would move up per the selection policy and procedure, Heroes for Honor committed to raising another $100,000 this year.
In keeping our promise to the Chamber members in 2015, this campaign is directed to individuals in the greater Sauk Prairie area and will feature an expanded list of events.
The first of these is the Hangar Dance planned for Saturday May 11th from 7-11 PM at the Sauk Prairie airport. Heroes for Honor is grateful to Mueller Sports Medicine for the use of their hangar. The theme is “Ready for Takeoff” and will feature an 18 piece big band, dancers from the Madison, Janesville and local area and the general public. Any Veteran who has previously flown in a Badger Honor Flight ad their guest will be admitted free by wearing either their red Badger Honor Flight shirt or jacket or hat. They can collect a “Boarding Pass” at Wyttenbach’s Meat Market, 1940 Prairie St. Prairie du Sac.
General admission tickets cost $25 per individual $40 per couple. They can be purchased online (riverartsinc.org), at River Arts on Water and also at Wyttenbach’s.
