Medical Assistant - Sleep Clinic (Part Time)

POSITION SPECIFICS
Title:  Medical Assistant
FTE:  0.6 FTE (24 hours per week)
Schedule: Between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm
Holiday Rotation:  None
Weekend Rotation:  None
 
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting.  The MA is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties.  Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories and preparing patients for examinations as directed by provider or designee.  Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and assisting with insurance verification and pre-authorizations if needed.
 
POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Room the patient. This process consists of but is not limited to: obtaining patient information such as vital signs, weight, medication history and then documenting the new information in the patient chart.
2. Obtain patient’s most recent labs and medical records from primary care provider and then update the patient records.
3. Download data from Positive Airway Pressure devices.
4. Clean and disinfect patient treatment rooms prior to and after patient visit.
5. Set up referral appointments and process appropriate forms.
6. Call in medication orders to pharmacies as ordered by the provider.
7. Collects and records accurate telephone information and relays it to the medical provider in a timely manner.
8. Schedule referrals/outpatient diagnostic procedures and coordinate prior authorization.
9. Obtain necessary referrals from physicians.
10. Assist with preparation for Sleep Management and Support Group classes including scheduling, flyers, handout preparation, and set up.
11. Check inventory and order supplies as needed.  Check items when they arrive and place in stock.
12. Participates in site process improvement teams.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Required:  Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of appointment
• Preferred:  Certification by one of the following national examination agencies:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA); or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
  • Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcare Association (NHC)
