Polysomnographer/Sleep Technician (Part Time)

POSITION SPECIFICS
Title:  Polysomnographer
FTE:  0.6 FTE (24 hours/week)
Schedule: 7:00am – 7:00pm with flexibility in the days
Holiday Rotation:  None
Weekend Rotation:  None
On Call Requirements:  None
 
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for conducting 16-channel Polysomnogram to include: preparation (wiring), monitoring, interpreting, titrating and scoring sleep studies. 
 
POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Verify insurance information, including pre-authorizations if needed prior to arranging polysomnogram. 
2. Contact patient to arrange polysomnogram and send information letter.
3. Explain to each patient the basic principles of CPAP, BiPAP and Auto Servo Ventilation (ASV) and why it’s needed.
4. Measure and wire each patient to the mini box for each of the 16-channels.
5. Measure each patient for the correct size CPAP mask.
6. Identify respiratory events for the qualification of a CPAP/BiPAP trial.
7. Titrate Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)/Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) for sleep apnea if appropriate.
8. Identify Periodic Leg Movements (PLM’s) and mark accordingly.
9. Score each sleep study to include stages of sleep, arousals, respiratory events and PLM’s.
10. Prepare preliminary report for the sleep physician.
11. Schedule Out-of-Center Sleep Testing (OCST) for patients that qualify for this type of testing. 
12. Assist in Sleep Clinic, track Quality Assurance measures, data entry, chart assembly and arrange home care set-ups.
13. Inventory and keep sleep center supplied with appropriate equipment as well as monthly equipment checks on CPAP/BiPAP machines.

• Required:  Successful completion of a polysomnography program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography specialty option or A-STEP introductory program and modules

• Required:  Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification within one year from hire date
