Surgical Technician (Full Time)

POSITION SPECIFICS
Title:  Surgical Technician
FTE:  0.9 FTE (36 hours/week)
Schedule:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00am - 5:30pm
Holiday Rotation:  Internal holiday rotation per unit guidelines
Weekend Rotation:  None
On Call Requirements:  1 weekday every 2 weeks and every 9th weekend
 
POSITION SUMMARY
Establishes and maintains a sterile field for surgical procedures meeting the high standards of SPMH. Prepares surgical suites and assists surgeons during surgical procedures.
 
POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Establish and maintains sterile field for surgical procedures.
2. Plan and gather equipment and supplies for all surgical procedures.
3. Open all equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
4. Set up procedures.
5. Ready all instruments, equipment and supplies for the case.
6. Assist with prepping and sterile draping of patients.
7. Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, clamping tissues and "bleeders," and operating cameras and surgical equipment.
8. Assist with closing of surgical wounds.
9. Responsible for all counts along with RN.
10. Universal precautions are strictly adhered to
11. Assist with reprocessing and sterilization of all instruments.
12. Assist with cleaning of equipment, surgical suites and storage rooms.
13. Treat all patients equally, with compassion, and without regard to social status, medical condition or race.
14. Adhere to the Surgery Department Code of Ethics as it pertains to other team members.
15. Protect patients' rights.
16. Order supplies as needed.

• Required:  Specialized training beyond high school normally gained in a program of less than 18 months duration
