    Milwaukee Valve Company is looking for a 1st Shift Tool Grinder Trainee to join our Prairie Du Sac, WI team in Department 761. This position has a starting hourly wage of $19.13 plus a 4.5% shift premium. 

    *This position is eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. The first half ($1,000) is payable after successful completion of the orientation period and the second half ($1,000) is payable after one year of employment.*

    The regular scheduled hours for this position are 3:00PM - 11:30PM, Monday through Friday with overtime eventually becoming a possibility or required. When working overtime, the shift is either 9 or 10 hours maximum.

    Summary - The Tool Grinder Trainee is responsible to learn how to maintain and sharpen all Shop Tooling using various types of Grinding Machines and the required accessories. Must be able to read and somewhat comprehend various types of blueprints. Must also learn the operation of various micrometers, calipers, fixed gauges, and other measuring equipment. This individual will be trained by Tool room personnel and by the Tool Room Supervisor.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities to which competency will be measured include the following:

    • Learn the operation and setup of the various types of grinding machines to maintain and sharpen shop tooling.
    • Requires the ability to comprehend verbal/written instructions.
    • Requires the ability to comprehend/interpret blueprints and specifications. (May need to take a blueprint reading course.)
    • Knowledge of micrometers, calipers, fixed gauges, and other measuring equipment.
    • Requires maintenance of all tool room grinding equipment including lubrication of these machines.
    • Maintain Safety and cleanliness in a prescribed manner.
    • Must have basic Computer skills.
    • Required to have various tools required needed to perform their assigned tasks. This can include 6” steel rule, 1” micrometer, 6” caliper, screwdriver set, adjustable wrench, hammer, and toolbox within 90 days.

    All work subject to final inspection.

    Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training in performing the required duties.

    Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, Blueprints, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Must have the ability to communicate effectively.

    Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Stand or walk 100% of the shift, frequent bending and lifting 30-40 lbs. frequently, unassisted. 70 lbs. occasionally, assisted or unassisted.
