The department supervisor’s main responsibility is to serve as Store Manager in the absence of both store manager and assistant manager. This includes opening and closing responsibilities, arming and disarming security systems, handling cash and assuring that the store is ready to be left until the next opening or closing. The most critical area of expertise and focus for any department supervisor should be coaching exceptional customer service to the staff.
§ Unload trucks and pre-sort merchandise to ensure efficient on floor stocking.
§ Assist with stocking.
§ Assist with pricing merchandise.
§ Assist with store housekeeping.
§ Ensure the neat and orderly appearance of displays and end caps.
§ Clean shelves, counters and tables.
§ Assist with the presentation of window displays, promotional presentations and sales programs as assigned.
§ Work to prevent damage and theft of merchandise.
§ Act as community ambassador by promoting other businesses, community attractions and events.
§ Act as the store’s ambassador by ensuring each customer receives outstanding service.
§ Assist with answering the phone and directing calls.
§ Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
§ Assist with processing point-of-sale transactions including, but not limited to, sales, returns, layaways, special orders and deposits.
§ Enforce policies and procedures for safety, loss prevention and other areas, and serve as a safety role model.
§ Supervise staff in the absence of management.
§ Assist with training employees and plans, assigns and directs work.
§ Become subject matter expert on the operations of our checkout systems.
§ Serve as backup to cashiers on duty when customer count dictates and/or employee attendance impacts the checkout staff.
§ Handle and resolve customer complaints and concerns as they surface.
§ Direct or delegate routine store tasks to include but not be limited to: janitorial duties, floor maintenance and cleanliness.
§ Familiar with our Company’s Loss Prevention directives and actions necessary to enforce our policy.
§ Other duties as assigned.
The minimum requirements for this position include the following:
§ Excellent customer service skills.
§ Previous retail work experience preferred.
§ Authorize any customer returns and/or defective merchandise.
§ Working knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS Word and Excel.
§ Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail and ability to multitask.
§ Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings weekends and holidays, to meet the needs of the business.
§ Ability to operate a personal computer.
§ Ability to concentrate for long periods of time while maintaining accuracy.
§ Frequent repetitive motion (typing on a keyboard, adding machine, etc.).
§ Lifting up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; 25-50 pounds on a regular basis.
