US State Department Selects Sauk Prairie School District For Critical Language Program

Fully funded exchange teacher from China to join team at Sauk Prairie High School Prairie du Sac – Through a competitive application process, the Sauk Prairie School District has been selected for the 2022-2023 Teachers of Critical Languages Program. The Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) is designed to increase and strengthen the study and acquisition of Mandarin Chinese and Arabic language in U.S. schools.

Selected U.S. school districts host a teacher from China, Taiwan, Egypt, or Morocco to teach Mandarin Chinese or Arabic, respectively, for one academic year. TCLP also provides exchange teachers the opportunity to learn about U.S. teaching methodologies, culture, and society.

TCLP is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is implemented by American Councils for International Education.

Sauk Prairie High School will host a fully funded exchange teacher from China.

SPHS students will be given the opportunity to enroll in Mandarin Chinese classes taught by this guest teacher and the teacher will spend time in classrooms throughout the district – all at no cost to the Sauk Prairie School District.

“This is exciting for all of our students,” commented Superintendent Jeff Wright. “I thank our teammates who navigated the application and interview process to secure this unique opportunity for our community.” TCLP works with only 27 school districts across the country to host exchange teachers. The exchange teacher from China will prepare to travel to the United States in August to begin his/her journey teaching their native language at Sauk Prairie High School for the new academic year.
