Formed in the Chicago area in 1975 and celebrating its 40th anniversary, The Special Consensus is a four-person acoustic bluegrass band with a repertoire that features traditional bluegrass standards, original compositions by band members and professional songwriters, and songs from other musical genres performed in the bluegrass format, including their latest CD, “Country Boy: A Bluegrass Tribute to John Denver” which received 2 major awards in 2014 from the International Bluegrass Music Association.
In 1984, the band created the Traditional American Music (TAM) Program to introduce students of all ages (and teachers) to bluegrass music. They have presented the TAM Program in hundreds of schools throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, Scotland and South America and will be bringing it to the Sauk Prairie School District 3rd and 4th graders this year.
