About Us
Sauk Prairie Early Learning Center is an exciting new child care center currently under construction in the heart of the Sauk Prairie community, set to open in September 2025. In partnership with the Sauk Prairie School District, Sauk Prairie Area Chamber of Commerce, municipalities, and generous donors, this vision has been able to come to life. Sauk Prairie Early Learning Center is a year round program providing early care and education to children ages 6 weeks - 5, with an enrollment capacity of 168. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging early learning environment that effectively supports the diverse needs of children, families, and community. We are committed to delivering high-quality early care and education, creating a foundation for children to build critical skills for school and throughout life.
Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable, organized, and caring Cook to join our team. The Cook is responsible for planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen, and supporting the overall health and well-being of the children in our care. Start Date will be in September.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and serve breakfast, lunch, and snack that meet USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program nutrition standards and Wisconsin Child Care Licensing requirements
- Follow menus and portion guidelines while accommodating food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special dietary needs as required.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with Wisconsin licensing regulations and health department standards.
- Maintain accurate food production records and temperature logs as necessary
- Order, receive, and store food and supplies in accordance with safety and inventory practices, per Wisconsin Child Care Licensing Requirements.
- Collaborate with the Center Director and teaching staff to support classroom needs related to nutrition.
- Participate in food program reviews and inspections as required.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment with maintaining attention to detail
- Obtain 4 hours of annual continuing education relating to food service
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience preparing meals in a childcare, school, or similar setting preferred.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines and Wisconsin child care licensing rules related to food service.
- Current food handler certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift and carry food and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
- Friendly, dependable, and comfortable in a child-centered environment.

District Description:
The district includes Sauk City and Prairie du Sac, two “next door” villages known as Sauk Prairie. They are located on the beautiful Wisconsin River. Thirteen towns and the village of Merrimac are also in the district. The area features rolling hills, meadows, bluffs, forests, lakes, and streams. The district offers small-town, rural living with easy access to the Madison urban area (25 miles) and to the Wisconsin Dells recreation area (28 miles). The district serves 2,800 students and comprises six learning communities with a high school of 850 students, middle school of 600 students and four elementary schools of 1350 students.
