Sauk County Clean Sweep Saturday September 27, 2025

Sauk County will hold a hazardous waste Clean Sweep event from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 27, at the former Sauk County landfill, E8795 Evergreen Lane, Baraboo. Clean Sweep is an opportunity for Sauk County homeowners, agricultural enterprises, and businesses to dispose of hazardous products and items that pose an environmental risk, such as pesticides and toxic cleaning products. Hazardous waste will be collected at no charge, however, there are fees for tires, some electronic items, and appliances.

Please help us have a successful and safe event by following these rules:

    · All participants must stay in their vehicles at all times while at Clean Sweep.

    · All items that are being dropped off at Clean Sweep should be loaded into the rear of the vehicle, trunk, truck bed, or trailer. Staff will unload items at each station.

Latex paint and motor oil are not accepted at the Sauk County Clean Sweep events. Latex paint is non-hazardous, but it must be solidified before throwing away. It’s easy to dry out: If you have a small amount, simply remove the lid and allow it to dry outside. Mix larger amounts with cat litter or a paint drying product sold at hardware stores. Never dispose of liquid paint in your trash.

Businesses that qualify as Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) are required to preregister with Veolia for any paint and chemicals by September 20. To register, please contact Collin Barrington with Veolia at (262) 875-7014.

Resource Solutions will be handling disposal of electronic items and appliances. Fees may apply. Contact Resource Solutions at (608) 244-5451 for more information and pricing. Please remove all batteries from electronics prior to the event. Cash, credit, or checks payable to Resource Solutions will be collected at drop-off. A touch free payment option will also be available for those who would like to pay by card.

Pharmaceuticals, IVs, and needles will not be accepted. Residents can drop off unwanted medications at various police departments throughout the county and at the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department. Other items that Clean Sweep cannot accept include mattresses, furniture, explosives, detonators, blasting caps, radioactive materials including smoke alarms, infectious and biological waste, compressed gas cylinders, asbestos, demolition materials, recyclables, and yard and household waste.
