    POSITION SPECIFICS
    Title: Registered Nurse – Urology
    FTE: Per Diem
    Schedule: Monday – Friday between the hours of 7:30am-5:00pm
    Holiday Rotation: None
    Weekend Rotation: None
    On Call Requirements: None
     
    POSITION SUMMARY
    Provide assessment and treatment of urological patients, providing quality, professional nursing care, and assisting medical provider with medical procedures or performing those independently within the nursing scope of practice.

    POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Utilizes the nursing process:  assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in all patient encounters.
    2. Performs nursing procedures, including procedures related to Foley catheters and Intravesicular Therapy.
    3. Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results bringing significant values to the provider’s attention.  Have knowledge of tests and procedures and their significance as related to patient care.
    4. Assists medical provider with procedures as requested.
    5. Administers medication by oral and IM routes.  Demonstrates and understands administration techniques.  Recognizes the implementation of dosages, interactions, side effects, adverse effects, routes of administration of drugs as they apply to individual patients.  Uses knowledge of medications in instructing patients about medication therapy.
    6. Triages/screens telephone call related to patient care.?
      • Obtains appropriate information with attention to detail and accuracy (i.e. using direct symptom related questions – keeping patient focused.)
      • Makes nursing assessment utilizing, theory and judgment, and patient information.
      • Implements appropriate care using nursing assessment, critical thinking skills, protocols, and standing orders.
    7. Performs delegated medical acts and provides supervision as needed in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to the LPNs and unlicensed personnel.
    8. Assesses patient status to determine need for treatment or intervention in life threatening situations.  Participates using Emergency protocols if needed, or under the direct supervision of a medical provider.
    9. Manages clinic flow and performs patient rooming workflows as requested.
    10. Collect laboratory samples, e.g. Urine and Pathology specimens, etc.
    11. Schedule referrals/outpatient diagnostic procedures including patient prep information and coordinate prior authorizations.
    12. Establishes working relationships teaching protocols for patient education, family counseling and general public information.
    13. Takes a leadership role in the facilitation of department functions including mentoring new staff and ensuring policies & procedures are followed.
    14. Leads and participates in site process and policy improvement teams.
    15. Cross train and staff other clinics as needed.
    16. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, protocols, standing orders and quality assurance standards.
    17. Performs other duties as required.
    Urology Specific Requirements
    1. Assists with all Urology procedures in clinic such as vasectomies, cystoscopies, Urodynamic studies, prostate needle biopsies, BCG treatment etc.
    2. Provide clinical management and independent care for Urodynamics, Post Void Residuals and uroflows.
    3. Provides clinical care and education for the patient with catheter changes, self-catheterization, and trial without catheter.
    4. Participates in data collection, statistical reporting and outcomes.
    POSITION REQUIREMENTS
    Education:
    • Required: Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)  
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)  
    Experience:
    • Required: None  
    • Preferred:1 to 3 years of experience as a nurse in a health care setting
    Licenses and Registrations:
    • Required: State Licensure as a Registered Nurse
    • Preferred: None
    Certification(s):
    • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
    • Preferred: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
